The Real-Life MBA: Your No-Bs Guide t…
Mega-bestselling business authors Jack and Suzy Welch return, nearly a decade after publishing their international bestseller, Winning, to tackle the most pressing business challenges related to creating winning strategy, leading and managing others, and building your own career, in The Real Life MBA, an essential guide for every person in business today – and tomorrow.
You can talk about theories, concepts, and ideologies all you want, but when it gets right down to it, winning in business is all about mastering the gritty, inescapable, make-or-break, real-life dilemmas that define the new economy, the old economy, and everything in between. My boss is driving me nuts. I’m stuck in career purgatory. My team has lost its mojo. IT is holding us hostage. Our strategy is outdated the day we make it. We don’t know what our Chinese partners are talking about. We’re just not growing.
This is the real stuff of work today.
In the decade since their blockbuster international best-seller Winning was published, Jack and Suzy Welch have dug deeper into business than ever in their careers, traveling the world consulting to businesses of every size and in every industry, working closely with entrepreneurs from Mumbai to Silicon Valley, starting their own company, and owning and managing more than 40 companies through private equity. Coupled with Jack’s 20 years of iconic leadership at GE and Suzy’s tenure as editor of the Harvard Business Review, their new database of knowledge will infuse the pages of The Real Life MBA with fresh, relevant stories and equally powerful solutions.
Jack Welch began his career with the General Electric Company in 1960, and in 1981 became the company’s eighth Chairman and CEO. During his tenure, GE’s market capitalization increased by $400 billion, making it the world’s most valuable corporation. In the last half of the 1990s, GE was also consistently voted the most admired company in the world by Fortune magazine, and the Financial Times named him one of the three most admired business leaders in the world today. Upon retiring from GE in 2001, Mr. Welch published his autobiography Jack: Straight from the Gut, an international bestseller; his second international bestseller, Winning, was written with his wife Suzy Welch. Mr. Welch is currently the head of Jack Welch, LLC, where he serves as a consultant to a small group of Fortune 500 business CEOs and speaks to businesspeople and students around the world. In 2009, he founded the Jack Welch Management Institute, which offers an Executive MBA and a selection of Executive Certificate programs.
Suzy Welch is a best-selling author, television commentator, and noted business journalist. Her latest book, the New York Times bestseller 10-10-10: A Life Transforming Idea, presents a decision-making strategy for success at work and in parenting, love, and friendship. The former editor of Harvard Business Review, she attended Harvard University and Harvard Business School, where she graduated as a Baker Scholar. Her professional experience includes several years at Bain & Company, the management consulting firm, where she focused on manufacturing clients. Mrs. Welch is also on the advisory board of the Jack Welch Management Institute and serves on the board of several non-profit organizations in the fields of education and homelessness.
